OpenAI Launches GPT-5 with Real-Time Research Capabilities

OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5, its most advanced language model to date, featuring real-time research capabilities that allow it to browse the web, analyse live data, and provide up-to-the-minute information in its responses.

The new model represents a significant leap from GPT-4, with key improvements including:

- Real-time web access: GPT-5 can search the internet, read current articles, and synthesise information from multiple sources in seconds.
- Multi-modal reasoning: The model can simultaneously process text, images, audio, and video with near-human accuracy.
- 500K token context window: A 4x increase from GPT-4 Turbo, allowing it to process entire codebases or lengthy documents in a single conversation.
- Improved coding abilities: GPT-5 scores 92% on SWE-Bench, up from GPT-4's 68%, making it a genuinely useful coding assistant.

For job seekers, GPT-5's enhanced capabilities have immediate practical applications. Resume optimisation tools powered by GPT-5 can now analyse live job postings and tailor your resume in real-time. Interview preparation tools can simulate company-specific interview styles based on recent candidate reports.

However, the launch has also raised concerns about AI replacing certain job categories. A McKinsey report released alongside the launch estimates that GPT-5-level AI could automate 30% of tasks in knowledge worker roles by 2028, accelerating the need for workers to develop AI-complementary skills.

GPT-5 is available through the ChatGPT Plus subscription ($20/month) and via API for developers.
